Good Food – Japanese

IMG_0503IMG_0505

Umai-Ya, one of my favorite place to go for a good dining. The one I visit the most will be the branch in Damansara Utama (Uptown).

IMG_0535

The food here nice because it’s fresh, seafood not fresh, then nothing else to talk bout. By paying with reasonable amount of money $$$ you able to enjoy something really fresh from the sea… Especially in KL…

 IMG_0536

The interior in this branch not bad, whereby you can have a little bit of privacy, you not in the same big hall like other restaurant, but 4 tables in a room, or if you come with 6 person and above, you can have your own private room as well. Of course normally we come with 2, so I never dining in the private room…

IMG_0537

They will open another new outlet in KLCC, the place I work, hopefully they can maintain the quality of food, because most of the time, the same restaurant unable to provide the same taste in the different branch. The branch in Suria KLCC located at the old location of Sakea Sushi (Kesian Sakea, have to close down one of the top branches in KL, too bad the food really going down.), 4th floor, ampang mall, next to KiKi Taiwan Cuisine.

Enjoy…

Some of the restaurant we go actually not just for the food, but the atmosphere, like the one I’m gonna intro…

Leonardo’s @ Bangsar

Picture 015

This is one of the place which I’ll categorize it under “Enjoy the Atmosphere”, means that the main focus of this restaurant is not on the food or beverage, but just the environment. The food here looks nice, but by the time you put into your mouth then you will get the different answer.

 Picture 016

If you compare the quality of the food I can tell that it just same as the one you took from normal western restaurant, not the fine dining one. But the price they charge is slightly too high. We pay too much for the renovation, sound system, and lightning which create the nice dining environment.

It’s a good place to social a bit, have a good chat and have a cup or two of wine, you can always bring your own wine because personally I don’t like the wine they serve and most of the wine that we chose from the menu always ‘Out-of-Stock”…

Just wanted to share one of the dessert I like… Japanese Layer Crepe Cake @Food Foundry.

Picture 002

Last time, few years back I still remember I have to go all the way to Malacca only can get this kind of layer crepe cake, but since one of the friend intro this restaurant and cafe in PJ Sec. 17, then I know where should I go for my teatime next time, no longer drive for one hour plus or two to reach Malacca town de.

Picture 001

For them who know the location of this My Elephant, Sec 17 PJ too, I’m sure they know about this place, because it just located at the next block of it.

Picture 003

Not a fancy place to go but just nice to have a cup of coffee in the afternoon or right after your meal. very comfortable place to enjoy your dessert. A place for you to have a good chat with the great company. Oh, they do serve some simple pasta, and some other food as well.

Closing Soon…

Today, wanna share something about this places which gonna be closing soon after so long they doing business in this area. I think some of the local (KL) friends sure been visit to this place before. It’s not a very great place to go, not fine dining, but just a place full with memories – Yut Kee Kopitiam (or Kedai Makan Yut Kee, a very old-name).

Picture 009

One day heard from a friend about this old shop gonna close down, with the reason the owner of this shoplot gonna take back the place and let it take over by some other big company to do some new ugly high rise building. I know the owner wish to make some big money by selling out this golden-land, but they never thought of keeping these kind of place just to have some Sweet n Bitter memories, at least we have something to tell the new generation what really happened before in this area, or in this country.

In KL, hardly get to see something after war, people start have to look back into the books or photo just to get back something which happened, they unable to touch any of this anymore. I think not only in KL, but in most of the places, this thing happen everywhere, they never appreciate what they had, but just dream for something they never get.

Picture 010

The food here just something very local, the most specialty will be the Pork-burger (Roti Babi), and the Pork Chop, which most of the people purposely come to eat. The coffee here not bad, because they roast it by themselves, so it taste nice too… other then that, just depends on what you like la… last time they also famous with this sponge cake, but me myself not really biggest fans for sponge cake. Forget to tell, another food must try will be the beef noodle… Dry Yut Kee Beef Noodle…

Just like the kopitiam in Hong Kong, you might need to share your table with others if you not going in the big number of people. Just like that day, three of us went there, just to bring a great friend of mine, who travel all the way from Vienna, to visit this historical place, let him experience what we called ‘Local Feel’ kind of Cafe. Of course we not talking about the food there, but just experience.

Just visit the place while you still can… One year later when they really roboh it… even they relocate to some other places, the same restaurant, but you cannot have that kind of feeling/mood anymore.

Babi Guling

DSC_9926

One of the Famous Food in Bali – Babi Guling. This restaurant located in Ubud, named Ibu Oka, everyone here spent two hours journey from Kuta to Ubud just to taste the original recipe of Babi Guling. Most original one…

BABI GULING

DSC_9937

See… Everyone waiting here… really long queue… Start from the point I’m standing at least need to wait for 30mins… If you’re lucky… but this only for them who wanna take away, if dine in, you just have to take a seat and they will serve you, but still have to wait for 30-45mins…

DSC_9941DSC_9935

No matter inside or outside the restaurant, not easy for you to get a place to sit. Unless the food is sold out. Normally Everyday they start operation at 11am, and will finish at 2pm. So if you really wanna try it, you must come early… the pig will never wait for you… ;P

DSC_9938DSC_9939

Menu very simple and clear, you just pick the normal set or the special set. Beside that you still can have some side-order. The food not so expensive, just cost about RM 9, for one set of Babi Guling Rice.

This the way they serve the BABI GULING… a bit scary…

The Lady so happy to show us the PIG HEAD… Aiyer…

She will cut out the meat from the head too… the Nose is gone…

When her job is done, then the rest will serve the food…

Dim Sum Buffer

Good Blunch

As the plan that we set to weeks before, this morning will go for a buffer breakfast in Oriental Spoon, KL Sooka Sentral. 8 of us, just nice to fit into a big table, which is the first table from the way walk in. The partition just gives us a little privacy and not disturb by the big family next to us.

After the bad dinner last night, in Zanmai Sushi @ the Garden, this morning felt that very hungry and cannot wait for the food to ready. Talk about the bad dinner, so disappointed with the service and the food from the restaurant that most of the people highly recommended. We wait for more than 15mins to get the table to fit 6 of us, then only we realize that inside the restaurant cannot feel air-con but only the heat from the spot-light. Before this when we standing outside to wait for the table, we complained that the Garden not cold enough, feel so hot.

Then they missed my order, mine tenduri come after others finished their meals. I’m so disappointed with the service too, call for few times only refill for the green tea, ask them to check for the meal, after four times only come out with my meal. The food not so fresh, some of it tasteless, especially the vege.

Thanks God that after the bad dinner, this morning I can get some nice breakfast. The building very silent in this Sunday morning, but a lot of people waiting in front of the restaurant before it open. Luckily we made the reservation two weeks in advance, because a group of lady didn’t make reservation cannot dine in because the restaurant is fully booked.

Wish to post the photos that I took for the dim sum, but all photo with Jr., because I used his camera to take it. Maybe try to update the photo after this.

Even the dim sum without pork, but still taste nice. Next week will be the last weekend for the promotion of this dim sum buffer, RM 18.80++. Too bad cannot make any reservation now, if not sure next week I wish to go again.

Spent 3hours plus for our Dim Sum Buffer, a nice blunch, in the lovely Sunday. *full

First Time in the Cinema

Don’t think that something happened in the cinema for the first time, not thing happened, just watch movie. This title just explain that today bring WILL to the cinema in Pavilion, and this the first time WILL watch movie in KL, with the malay couple sit beside him and chatting during the movie show. So sorry for that WILL, too bad that movie, The Happening, just show in the small cinema, so cannot choose the twin seats at the side.

Today plan suddenly change since WILL meeting postpone to some other day, and I’m be the one to company him again. Just too free for me, on short holiday. :P The plan change to have a movie in Pavilion and walk around Bukit Bintang area to get the stuff that WILL looking for.

This evening we have this nice dinner at MOUSSANDRA Mediterranean and Tapas Restaurant, with the company of William and SK.

We enjoy the good time, with the good company in this restaurant with not-so-many-people. Some sad story about this restaurant, as what the waitress told us that KL Plaza will close down for at least one and a half year to do some renovation, since the Pavilion Management take over the plaza. All the merchant need to move out, but this restaurant actually not in the plaza but just the back door attached to KL Plaza, most of the people come in from there.

Now in the following months, they may facing some problem in business since the renovation of KL Plaza may affect the business. The main door is not so easy to let people notice them.

Talk about the dinner, we had ordered too any dish till we cannot finish it, too full. After the appetizers, actually we almost there to stop eating, but we never know that SK did order another 4 main course for us. Looking at the nice food, but the hands not willing to move and grab the food. The food is not that bad, we wish to finish it, but really full.

We almost finished the recommended food in the restaurant so no other reason for us to come back then…

Bottomless Drinks

I should write this post right after the party, but the next morning after I off to Cameron Highland, so not enough time… NOw only I post it...

Actually I shouldn’t cari pasal during the party, but I really mad with the service given by the restaurant. That night we celebrate Janvier’s 27th Birthday in Italiannies @ The Curve. I think most of us like the food they serve; they serve the good food with the reasonable price.

What happened this night will totally change my mind; I’m swear I’ll never step into this restaurant again. (I may go some other branches, I like the one in The Garden… got a lot of cute guys… =P)

On the menu… Bottomless Drink – Soft drinks, Ice Lemon Tea, …

Case 1 – When JL ask one of the waiter to refill the drinks, I think JL ordered the Ice Lemon Tea, starting this waiter tells that after 10pm they got no refill for the drinks. Then Paul tell him that our watch shows that it’s only 9pm. Then he got no other excuse but just refill the drinks for both of them.

Case 2 – Around 9.40pm, I ask another waiter (Not the one before…) to refill my drinks. This time the waiter tells me that he cannot refill for me… with no other reason. Yes, with no reason. I thought that I’m over the time of refill, but I’m not.

Me: Why you tell me cannot refill???

Waiter: Emmm… Just cannot…

Me: But why??? Should it come with at least a reason?

Waiter: No… Just cannot refill anymore…

Me: If really cannot refill then please change your menu… Don’t name it “Bottomless Drink”…

After that SK just asks this idiot to get us some sky juice and he serve us with the bad face. WTF…

This not the first time I visit this restaurant and it not the first time I order the same drink… if they not happy just because we keep on refill the drink then we should choose another restaurant, and let that restaurant to earn the 600-700 from us. Even thought we not paying 600 for the bill but they still should serve us as what they stated on the menu. Don’t tell me that I order the Salmon steak but you serve me with the Chicken, just because the Salmon is too expensive… (If the restaurant really does this then I’ll ask them to close the restaurant since rent for the restaurant is not that cheap…)

I’m sure that there got no rules to tell the customer that no refill after 10pm, I remembered last time we take our meal there until 11pm we still refill for our drink, the same drink – Ice Lemon Tea.

I’m not saying that I complain just because I’m not willing to pay for another glass of Ice Lemon Tea, but just because they cheated, there got no remarks on the menu that no refill after 10pm or no refill after how many times of refill….

After this Italiannies in the Curve will be out from the list of restaurant to go...

Sushi King KLCC

This day our class at Chen She Shu Yuan, behind Petaling Street, Chan/Tan Family Old Library. I don’t know why they choose this place, this place so small and it’s damn hot. I prefer to walk inside petaling street, even I know nowadays petaling street (ChinaTown) is not that safe for use to shooting there. The people inside may think that you’re reporter, they just think that you wanna record what their activities and show it in the paper.

I can’t really enjoy myself when the weather is too hot, I feel uncomfortable with it. This place covered and no wind can come into it.

We spent most of the time to discuss about the photo we take before but not taking the photo inside here. Most of us stop after one and a half hour taking photo in this small ‘library’…

After everything we (Jane and me again) go to KLCC. Lunch, shopping, teatime, movie and dinner. Talk about our dinner then I must share about what happened in the restaurant we take our dinner.

We pick Sushi King for our dinner, this is what happened…

When the time we order our Kotomo Bento, the waiter tell us that we need to wait for 20-25mins, just because the meals take some times to get ready. I ask him why we never heard this kind of reason everytime we order. He just gives me the reason of hard to get ready for the meal, a lot of thing to ready.

Then we just stick back to the order and wait. At the same time, I find out that he put the wrong time on the order form. He stated there we order around 7.00pm but when the time I find out the clock on the wall is only 6.52pm. I remember we walk-in around 6.35pm, and we order around 6.40pm. I do understand why he put it around 7.00pm but that’s not the good way to stay away from the delay of the food to deliver.

Then we get our food around 7.05pm whereby 20-25mins after we ordered. I’m fine with the timing since I expect the meals are ‘fresh’. Now I wanna complain about the way they serve us the food. The waiter just put the two sets of Kotomo Bento on the tray and put it in front of Jane. He expects that we serve it ourselves. Why I pay you the service tax? This the service that I get after I pay for the extra 10%??? WTF!

The story not finishes yet. About the food, we find out something is missing in the sets and most of it are not hot and fresh as we thought in the first place. I think the food ready long time ago.

They got at least 10-12staffs that I saw them walk around, but I still need to ask them to refill for me even thought I find out one of them noticed our cups were empty. Too bad, he did not thing. When the time I ask another waitress refill it for us, half way she refill our cups, another Fat Service Crew (I can’t find the one can be bigger size than her in the restaurant), ask this girl who serving us the tea go to do some other work. She take the cup from her hand and put it on the table and say: Mari, I nak you buat tu… (Come here, I want you to do that…) She put down the cup and go… The trainee looks at me and I speechless that moment.

I just take down the phone number behind the menu and take some photos for the receipt and order form. I wish to take some action for this case. This was the service they give out from the Sushi King in KLCC Signature Food Court. Damn sad with their service.

GoodDay

This day really thank God for the good weather in the morning and afternoon, so that both of us, Jane and me, can finish our photography in Tasik Titiwangsa. When breakfast time, look into the sky and thought that sooner or later will rain; but when we reach there, the sun just come out from the cloud.

Today main model is not the ‘Eye on Malaysia’ but is a good model on the bridge, a yellow dragonfly. I think this fellow too tired since it’s body so BIG and he just stay there for more than 10mins. Last two times we see the dragonfly in Lake Garden and Ampang never stop for us to shot.

Finish few hours in this garden and get some nice shots, reflection and macro shots for the dragonfly. Good day for us on this bad weather.

Love in the City

Reason I can FLY

Rest before I continue

New Landmark

Tasik Titiwangsa

Nice Model

Today not only the good day for photography, but also a lucky day for me.

This evening takes dinner at the Sushi King in BTS, Jane wanna eat sushi and I wanna apply for the new Sushi King Membership Card.

First come into this branch find out the staffs not so friendly, no greeting, no smile. Then found ourselves a table, sit down and look for the food we want to order. Looking around to get someone to take our order, but no one in the lobby, only a guy making sushi in the counter and a manager doing his paperwork in the table next to us.

Only the manager can take our order now since no one else we can ask for it. When we meet this Mr Manager, he’s the only one serve the customer with smile.

Sushi King doing this survey for their services and ask the customer to comment for it. This will be the good chance for me to complain a bit for this branch. I didn’t do much complain but only let them know that their manager really give us a good service.

The staffs in this branch not only don’t know how to smile but they also not paying full attention in the job. The cashier key in the wrong amount of the Kotomo Bento that we ordered and we get a free set for it. After we walk out and only we find out the price is too cheap. RM34 for two sets of Kotomo Bento, two sets of sushi and a new membership. Actual price should be RM 54.

Apply the membership and you will get this Free Calendar 2008 and two cups.

Good Day!!! For Photography and food.

5KGsssssssss

OMG This happened after I come back from SG – I loss 5KG, now I’m 70KG again…

Last year august I still 62KG and I spent one year to put on my weight. End of July after I came back from Bangkok, my weight was 75KG and I’m so happy I reached the target that I wish to get; but now…

Within 6days I loss 5KGs… OMG… too fast…

What happened? I think I know the reason. This related to my lifestyle in SG.

The 6 Days…

Everyday… I wake up around 2-3 in the afternoon. I skipped the breakfast and lunch. When I ready myself to go out will be around 4-5pm. After meet with my friends then we will take dinner together.

After dinner then normally I didn’t take any supper but only drink some beer…

================

First night went out with a group of friends to celebrate yy’s 30th birthday. That night we only take some beer. The celebration ended up around 2 in the morning.

~

Second night went for ‘K-session’ from 07.30pm till 02am. This was the second day we celebrate yy’s birthday.

~ ~

Third day, company Jess to get his new cell phone at Far East, then we go for dinner at Wisma Atria. After the dinner went to get yy a new bag as his birthday present.

Another two friends invite us to a pub called Legion. This night we finished one and a half bottle of Chivas. This was the first time I mix Chivas with the green tea, I can’t stand for it, the taste so weird. The formulae for the mixture is Chivas + Green Tea + Soda + Coke + ice cube = ???.

The drinking session ended around 1 something.

Drunker's Drink

~ ~ ~

Forth day went out with Derek, James and Benji. We went for movie – 1408. [more]

The movie not so scary but still got someone shout in the cinema.

After the movie, Derek bring me and yy to one of the hotel near to the Cineplex for Hi-Tea at this Sunday afternoon. This Hi-Tea is my first meal in this day. We spent the whole afternoon here till 5pm.

After Hi-Tea session we decided to go for another movie – Dead Silent which I missed the time it show in KL; but it not as nice as I thought it is.

This night we continue the night at the place where yy and his friend always go – Ice Cool Beer. Spent the whole night here, we drink, we play the pool and we eat the Famous Chicken wings.

~ ~ ~ ~

Last day, I still wake up around 2pm in the afternoon, just because some idiot doing some renovation in the same block and the noise wake me up. If not I think I can sleep until dinnertime. The rain stuck me at home, I only can go out after it stopped.

This night we take our dinner at the Ramen restaurant… (I forget the name of the restaurant, only remember it located opposite the Bugis Junction and next to the Chapter 2 Saloon.) The food not that bad, but the price… $80++ for four of us (Me, yy, Derek and Suet Mee).

This night we ended up by enjoying our dessert at the Famous Dessert shop in Bugis. 4 people 7 different desserts.

My last night in SG (for this trip only, next month I’ll return… Xp), yy planned to go for supper at the food court near to his apartment coz the BBQ Chicken there taste so nice.

- End of my trip -

Sing 'K' in SG

Walau, long time I didn’t update my lovely blog… Happy in my Holiday… Xp

This evening went out with my friends; we take our dinner at K-Box Karaoke @ Cineleisure Orchard. Early plan was take our dinner there but at the end we extended till 2am.

The charge in SG was far expensive than we sing in KL but the different is the foods they serve. They charge $34 for the buffer dinner from 6pm till 10pm. They serve Japanese food and Chinese food. They also got BBQ session and dessert. Only one drink will serve on this buffer session.

The way they ready the BBQ really nice and their seafood really fresh. I count the salmon and tuna fish that ate by four of us can charge up to $80 if we take it in restaurant, just the seafood. So next round if you really interest to have a ‘sing-k’ session then K-Box Karaoke will be one of your choices. (Only the buffer is worth the price, because…)

After the buffer, we received call from another two friends who just finished work at this late evening, and then we decided to extend the session. The charges… Walau… they charge us $23++ per person, come with 2 drinks. First they only allow us to sing till 1am, then we request to extend it since we got another 2 friends will join us after 10.30. At the end they allow us to sing till 2am.

How much for the total cost? $34 + $31 = $65 per person for the night at this karaoke.

Don’t think about the money, we enjoy the time we share in the room with thousand of songs… some more today is Big Day (Birthday) of one of my friends – YY… Happy Birthday!!! You’re old liao la, UNCLE…. Xp

Forget to mention...

Today went to watch a nice movie in Cathay - The Last Legion. I think this movie still not out in KL. Yeah, I catch it first!!!

Wanna sleep now... Tired... I still have this weekend holiday waiting for me... share more about the movie later. Night... zzZZZ...

Welcome back to the Jungle

Yesterday sent Lion King back to the jungle; let him start his jungle life for another 32 weeks.

This time he stays at the 3rd floor of the block and stay with most of the ‘cut-people’. A little PR-Cat welcomes us at the door of his new hostel; see what Lion King did on this PR-Cat.

We (his mum and me) spent 2 hours there help him to clean his room. This guy so lucky cause I saw other student clean their room by themselves and non of the parents will stay there and clean. This Lion King just like a primary school student first goes into the hostel. :p “My dear son, let Ma-ma help you clean up the room first… Stay outside first…”

Me and the mother reached KL around 7.30 in the evening and the mother suggested go for dinner at one of the Japanese restaurant at Jalan Imbi. I purposely sent some photos to Lion King just to make him feel jealous since in the coming few months he can’t try any of the nice food in KL. Hehehe… I know I’m devil enough to make him feel envy.

I didn’t take too many nice shoots for the food since I can’t wait to taste the food, I damn hungry after finished the cleaning job and travelled for 3 hours back from the jungle.

This trip really tired but it also bring me closer to the mother, on the way back we chatted for the whole trip regards her relationship with her husband and the family. Sometimes mommy only wish to talk to someone, this is one of the way to care her. Lion King, you should do this too.

Reach home around 9.45 pm, after finished shower then I start to pack my stuff for the coming trip to Bangkok.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This day enjoy my day with my best friend Andrew at Mid Valley. The feeling so bad when the time I saw something I wanna buy but I can’t, just because my shopping time only start when I arrive in Bangkok.
Shopping!!! I wanna SHOPPING!!!
I think this coming days I can’t online and blog, so I’ll share about my Bangkok trip when I come back after 5 days.
